Greater Hume is a local government area located in the Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia. The area covers an approximate area of 5,746 square kilometres and has a population of approximately 11,500 people. The area is named after Hamilton Hume, an Australian explorer who first explored the area in 1824. The council was formed in 2004 through the amalgamation of Culcairn Shire, Greater Hume Shire, and Holbrook Shire. Greater Hume is primarily an agricultural area with a focus on beef and dairy cattle, sheep, and cropping industries. There are also a number of small towns and villages located throughout the region, including Culcairn, Holbrook, and Jindera.
